hat is the relevance of Sri Aurobindo’s teachings to the modern young generation? Why should they come in contact with Sri Aurobindo’s teachings and his philosophy? If we try to get the answers of these questions, first of all we must take a look at the present-day situations. Now-a-days, we are behaving like machines. In our busy daily lives we are failures in handling pressure-cooker situations. Jobs without pressure, exams without tension, interviews without nervousness – are becoming absurd things. That is why heart related problems are increasing among the young generation like anything in India. Our education system, our parents even our friends are helpless to provide us the required education and support to get rid of all these. But man cannot be so stressful and so helpless. According to Sri Aurobindo, there are potentialities in every human being. If he wants, he can do miracles. He is quite capable of transforming his life into higher consciousness. But we live unaware of this. As we are getting rich both economically and technically, poor condition of our inner being is getting exposed so quickly and naturally.

Once Sri Aurobindo said, “ There is a Power Within that knows beyond ourknowings.1 So, the Power is within us but we are not aware of that. That is the reason why we feel anxious in every problem we face. Our mind cannot think enough to dissolve these problems. Now, we need more knowledge and wisdom which is beyond our mind. And the journey towards this ‘more knowledge and wisdom’ is called Spirituality which is not bounded by some rituals. Whoever wants to be governed by that higher knowledge, higher wisdom and higher light can be a part of it. His past life or the mistakes of his present life will not be a barrier there. The only thing required is an urge for an enlightened life which will be governed by a higher force. But to put this idea into practice we do not need to renounce our daily lives. Here lies the uniqueness of Sri Aurobindo’s teachings.

There is also a part of our being which is beyond our mind or our physical parts. Sri Aurobindo called it ‘Psychic’.It ha that higher knowledge, higher wisdom, enlightened power and consciousness. If we always get connected to this, it can govern every aspect of our into a higher state of consciousness. And that should be our ideal.

So, finally we can say that, if we can start doing our daily jobs with the help of our inner consciousness that will change our lives for sure. The young age is ideal to set into this venture. In this regard Sri Aurobondo’s words are – “ The future belongs to the young. It is a young and new world which is now under process of development and it is the young who must create it.2
